As a Perinatal Wellness Specialist with over two decades of dedicated service in community health and public service, Shardae Herriford brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the field. With a dual Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and Human Biology, complemented by a Master of Science in Chemical Biology, her academic foundation is robust.
For more than a decade, her focus has been on nurturing mothers and babies, specializing in Mother-Baby Postpartum Care, Special Care Nursery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatrics. She holds a prestigious Certificate in Global Quality Maternal and Newborn Care from Yale Health, further affirming her commitment to excellence in maternal health.
In her role as a Childbirth Educator, Shardae's expertise extends beyond clinical care; she is deeply engaged in all aspects of the mat, with a particular emphasis on perinatal mental health, community advocacy, and patient rights. In addition to experience as a Full Spectrum Doula, she integrates lactation and milk-feeding skills, providing comprehensive support to mothers and families.
Moreover, Shardae actively contributes to the administrative side of maternal health, navigating policies and insurance changes to address social determinants of health issues. Her involvement ensures that families facing socio-economic challenges receive the support they need to thrive.
Dedicated to promoting health equity, especially among vulnerable populations, she is on a lifelong journey of cultural competence. Her passion lies in empowering Black families across the United States and the African diaspora.
