Birth Fathers Fellowship (Apply Now):
Birth Fathers Fellowship: This innovative childbirth education pilot engages dads through cohort-based learning, mutual support, mentorship, and access to resources. It's a first-of-its kind 8-session program that brings together 12 fathers under the newly published resource The Color of Fatherhood: A Facilitator's Guide for Supporting Dads on the Perinatal Journey, sponsored by SEMPQIC. This curriculum focuses on affirming Black fathersβ roles, fostering advocacy, building communication skills, addressing mental health and a range of childbirth education topics, all within an asset-based framework. To provide a foundational childbirth education experience, the program integrates The Baby Bond Birth & Beyond curriculum, led by Shardae Herriford, M.SC., a certified Perinatal Wellness Specialist in Childbirth Education and Safe Sleep. Shardae's curriculum offers structured learning on key perinatal topics.
CARE for Fathers: This is an engaging and transformative workshop improving systems by helping birthing hospital providers hold themselves accountable for understanding racism and implicit/explicit biases in systems & themselves as individuals, especially as it relates to the exclusion of black fathers from birthing process.Β Our critically acclaimed workshop has already been received by 200 providers across the state of Michigan in partnerships with MI AIM and SEMPQIC.Β
Black Marriage Movement participates and offers leadership in collective impact approach to family services in partnership with Black Family Development, Incorporated (BFDI); Family Assistance for Renaissance Men (FARM); Hitha Healing House; The Baby Bond: Birth and Beyond; and Qpid's Passion: Reproductive and Sexual Health.
