Black Marriage Movement Launch Party & Happy Hour
April 6th, 2024
Over 200 people gathered at Glasshouse Bar N Grill on Grand River to attend the official launch of the Black Marriage Movement, funded by SEMQIC. From well-known Detroit personalities to married Black couples and single Black men and women in support of the movement, attendees enjoyed drinks, food, and speeches from the organization's team.
Founder Jasahn Larsosa opened the event with introductions, emphasizing the promotion of supportive parental partnerships regardless of marital status. He then welcomed his wife and Executive Director, Krystal Larsosa, who delivered a powerful speech on Black love and marriage. "Think about a song we used to sing as kids," she said, leading the audience in a rendition of "Krystal and Jasahn, sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G." She reiterated the importance of prioritizing love, marriage, and then children, urging unity between Black men and women to address the crisis facing Black women.
Following Krystal's speech, representatives from the Healthy Births Coalition, including The Baby Bond: Birth and Beyond and Qpid's Passion and Hitha Healing House, shared insights. Later, Jasahn and Krystal's daughters, Karis Robinson-Larsosa, Kady Robinson-Larsosa, and Klir Jade Larsosa, known as the HersheKissis, expressed their pride in Detroit and announced their involvement in leading Heartbeat Bridge Media, launching a podcast hosted by their parents in 2024.
The event also featured remarks from Deputy Mayor of Detroit, Todd Bettison, and other supporters of the organization. With plans for numerous activities, programs, and media projects in 2024, attendees were encouraged to join the movement to promote generational wealth in Black communities.
